Ryan Cordell / Profile

Director, UVA Writing Center | Graduate Student

Ryan Cordell is a Ph.D. student in the English Department at UVA.  He worked on the Uncle Tom’s Cabin and American Culture project from 2005-2007.  Currently he’s preparing to direct UVA’s Writing Center during the 2009-2010 school year while also serving as project manager for the redesign of UVA’s Writing Program website.  When it goes online, redschoolhouse.org will present UVA’s complete writing curriculum online for students and teachers, both at UVA and elsewhere.

In the summer of 2009 Ryan received a Buckner W. Clay Endowment research grant to begin work on a digital edition of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s short story, “The Celestial Railroad,” which will compile and allow users to compare the nearly forty edited reprintings of the story published in newspapers, tracts, and books between 1843-1860.  Ryan is documenting his progress on this project at blog.celestialrailroad.org.
