Wheel of the Vital Breath (expires on December 31, 2012)
Tool Development, Scholarly Content, Teaching
This project is an evaluative survey of and a focused inquiry into a historically significant cluster of ideas and related images, which are found primarily within the humanities and secondarily within the history of science. I call this cluster of ideas and related images “The Wheel of the Vital Breath,” hereafter called the Vital Wheel, or the “QC System.” Appearances of the Vital Wheel are signaled by the appearance of one or both substantive motifs: the 5 Elements motif and the Octave motif. Each motif is a Quadrant/octave or square/Circle (QC) pattern within the Vital Wheel image, real or figurative, which acts as a systematic framework of analysis, synthesis, and imaging for the vitalist’s comprehension of nature, and/or human phenomena. See the first post for this project by Clay Moldenhauer.
